Ten local businesses are receiving $1,000 grants and 10 shoppers are receiving $150 gift cards from the Shop Local Macomb campaign, a program of the Macomb County Department of Planning and Economic Development.
The annual initiative encourages shoppers to patronize independently owned and operated establishments during the holiday season for the chance to win one of the gift cards provided by First State Bank and a county grant for the business they supported. In all, there were more than 775 entries. A drawing was held Monday with organizers selecting gift card winners and grant recipients.
“It’s always a great way to start the holiday season when we can announce the winners of our Shop Local Macomb contest,” said Vicky Rowinski, director of county Planning and Economic Development. “Both shoppers and businesses benefit from the program in more ways than one and I’m proud of the collaborative effort that it takes to put the initiative together.”
Winning businesses include: Armade in Michigan in Armada, Coffee First Cafe and Bake Shoppe in Sterling Heights, Dealers Discount Crafts and Floral in Center Line, Filipo Marc Winery in Clinton Township, Mother Earth Natural Health in Shelby Township, New DJ Shop, Warren, On the Bay Customs of New Baltimore; The Little Mustard Seed Cafe of New Baltimore, Toy Box in Utica and Washington Street Wine House in New Baltimore
County Planning and Economic Development received support from area chambers of commerce to run the event. They include the Sterling Heights Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Macomb County Chamber of Commerce, the Eastpointe-Roseville Chamber of Commerce, the Romeo-Washington Chamber of Commerce, the Richmond Area Chamber of Commerce and the Anchor Bay Chamber of Commerce.
